Stylish Grandma

My grandmother was a secretary for the school district during the 40's to the 50's.  I imagine her in that Iconic Mad Men styling.   She had a great figure and gorgeous red hair.

I imagine that nightly she would lay out her outfit for the next day.  She would never leave the house with out looking her best.  This often included a fancy broach.

She never pierced her ears so this pin had a set of matching clip on earrings.

This is by far my favorite pin, simple and elegant.

Grandma always adored cherries.

Just recently I inherited a handful of her broaches.  Rather than feel bad that I would never wear them I created this shadow box with a few and my favorite photos of her.   Fitting tribute.

A memento,

A litttle something I whipped up for my sisters, a pocket locket.

I bought a simple pocket watch at Walmart.
The Pocket watch only cost $12.96, so there was no stress as I pulled the back off.

I quickly pulled out all the components, and saved them in case they were necessary later.
The finished product was perfect, and is now a treasured photo.

She could knit...

Found via Pinterest--- Everyday I Show

I have always admired Audrey, I can't imagine why it surprises me that she knits too!

She would have been proud.

Dorothy Delilah Dale was unashamed to wash out a sandwich bag and reuse it, and there had been many visits to her home where I saw paper towels drying out to be used again.  My grandmother prided herself on buying nearly all her wardrobe at second hand stores.  She was as thrifty as they came.  When I stumbled upon  Just a Girls DIY on the Toilet Paper Tube Art it was kismet.  Here is a talent person who can see the value in something most would throw away!   I had to try it out, I need new art, and cause my Grandma who have loved it.     Look at the great photos she provided to inspire those who make the attempt!
I have already started to cut up a few TP rolls and some from wrapping paper.

Her spacing is perfect yet simple

This is the perfect compliment to the tasteful pillows
My plans are to keep the same basic idea... But with my own twist.  I have three large Plumeria trees in my back yard and i devised a way to mimic their blossoms with the cut tubes.  Plus I plan on adding color too.  I not quite certain what the out come but, that is where the fun/flop can make or break my project.  More to come!

A small change.

I have been avoiding the blog for a little while.  And to be honest.... My most recent post was written ages ago.  The reason for this level of avoidance is, I can't help feel rotten when I hit the blog.  I still very much feel the pain of loss when it comes to my grandmother's passing.  (long thoughtful sigh here)

So I decided to lighten the mood!!!  A change of pace is necessary.

I visited my local Target to pick up a few items and discovered they carry a small selection of Essie nail polishes.  Now if you are not familiar with this brand run out and buy some!  I am super rough on my manicure and need DAILY touch ups.  Not with the Essie.  With one coat of the polish over the O.P.I. base coat I can wear for a week without a chip!

Jamaica me crazy

A splash of grenadine

Super bossa nova
I love these three colors!  the Jamaica me crazy was the most recent purchase.  I tend to lean towards the colors with a red-pink base as my skin tone is super fair.  (I don't tan... I burst into flames!)     Well this being my small attempt to lighten my own mood...
